Out early, with some reluctance, to get the run in before Commencement. Schedule said "5 miles pace" but I wanted some more miles, and I figured I had time for 6-7 miles at 7:30 pace. Aimed for a short variant on the Rural Rd figure of 8, and started out fine, but as I turned off GeoHannum onto Boardman, doing an easy 7:20 pace, a bunch of Cyclonauts came by, including Steve L and Amy, who both yelled a hello--instinctively I picked up the pace, and that mile was a 6:47. So I figured do 10K at near-10K pace, a tempo run. Took Eskett, then 202, then back onto Boardman and Rural to GeoHannum - the last two miles with the little uphills, and I pushed on them a bit, feeling pretty feisty considering the week it's been and the achilles/calf problems. Hit 10K at 43:45, and stopped the clock a bit later, at the end of Hamilton.
Time: 45:33
Distance: 6.47 miles
Pace/Speed: 7:03s/ 8.52 mph
Comments: surprised to find that the crampy calf didn't give any trouble, so maybe I'll get over it. This brings the week's mileage to almost 38, which is low, but 1) it's higher than the plan suggests and 2) it doesn't account for the hard hour of biking -- and I plan to build that up too. So, Week 1 = so far so good.
